Summer’s Bounty

Summer’s Bounty

Bees float over lawn,

search for a spot

with small white clover.

Goldfinch’s yellow feathers

flash in large catmint

where it sits like a queen

on top of stalk to feast

on plant’s tiny seeds.

In the heart of summer

each creature secures

sustenance from the bounty

this season brings.

Early April & Announcement

Blue Iris

Blue Iris

Early April

In strengthening spring sun

last remnants of snow dissolve –

drip from roof’s edges,

form rivulets along path.

Robins arrive in garden, search

for worms under decaying leaves.

Sprouts of daffodils stretch

their long, green limbs upwards

as if to gather armfuls

of shimmering solar rays.

All Systems Go

The shine of quarter moon

fades into new light

from fire of rising sun.

Mist, a white shroud,

hovers as a gaseous vapor

above lake’s thinning ice.

Nature puts on the other shoe

with all systems set

to go towards spring.
